St James, Somerton. Oxon
Church Street 4, OX25 6NB Somerton, , United Kingdom
Mid 14th century; double chanter; one drone; human player
The carving is now, so I’m told by the warden, housed in the church though it was found with others at the back of the church. They are removals due to conservation/structural consolidation work done a few years ago. The carving is probably from the main phase of building C13-14 as there was no major building done post that date. Considering its location, near Adderbury and Bloxham, early/mid C14 is very possible.
